We all know that insurance comes in many guises.  Car liability insurance is the insurance that pays out when a person claims off you for any damage to property or body incurred by an accident with you.  You are required to have at least car liability insurance in order to legally drive.  Different areas have their own requirements in relation to minimum liability coverage.

Bodily injury liability insurance deals with any injuries the car owner and their covered family members cause.  You are also covered when driving somebody else’s car, with their permission of course.  But you can buy more than just this type of insurance.  Most people to in fact chose to buy more insurance and this is due to the fact that they may be sued if they cause an accident.  You want as much protection as possible in that case.

Property damage liability insurance is another type you will need.  This basically covers damage to property caused by an accident.  This would cover damage to things like other buildings, other vehicles, lamp posts, etc.

Car liability insurance is contrasted by comprehensive insurance, which covers much more.  Compared to car liability insurance this comprehensive insurance covers eventualities such as theft, arson and vandalism.  Comprehensive insurance is, naturally, more expensive.
