Tips for Buying Small Cars
Posted on September 28th, 2009 No commentsRecent events around the world saw people scrambling to purchase small cars. Gas prices went through the roof and stayed there for longer than anyone cares to remember. Buying any car comes with its fair share of headaches, but small cars have a few issues that are unique to their size and longevity. Here are tips for buying small cars.
1. Wear and Tear- Small cars are more prone to wearing out than a larger car with similar miles and use. The engines are smaller, parts are made of lightweight materials and they just are not built to last in most cases. Be wary of small cars whose mileage is well over 100,000, and ask to see maintenance records if they exist.
2. Safety- When comparing small cars to larger ones there is always a safety issue to consider, especially with older models. Today’s small cars are safer than ever with air bags, side curtains and certain manufacturer modifications such as reinforced roofs and break away nose caps.
3. Too Small- A small car will give you superior gas mileage and the confidence of knowing you reduced your carbon foot print, but that does not mean one will work for you. Do you have more than two children? Is this a back-up or work car only? Are you planning long trips where room for people and luggage is going to be required? All of these are great questions to determine if a small car is right for you and your family.
4. Track Record- What kind of consumer response has the small car you are looking at received. Some small cars were practically junk right off the assembly line while others are the Timex’s of the small car world, they keep a licking and keep on moving! Some of the Nissan varieties fell into this last category and a few small Dodge’s fell into the first know your car.
Small cars have many advantages but you cannot ignore the disadvantages altogether. If a car is not large enough to take the kids to dance or soccer practice, you will eat up your savings arranging alternate transportation.

Maybe Jenny Craig?
Posted on September 28th, 2009 No commentsOkay so What is the Hoopla on Jenny’s Plan?
This is a different diet because you are actually required to purchase Jenny’s own line of ‘cuisine’. With that, you eat other foods, such as fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy products. Then there are the essential grains and healthy fats that you will be consuming in this diet as well. You will be assigned a consultant to help with any questions and in choosing the right plan for you as well. You will have the advantage of having a professional help you all the way through and whenever you need it. he or she is there to go over the plan and to help you maintain your weight.
There is a Step by Step Process
Unlike some diets, this one is a little different. The consultant that you are assigned will actually go through a week by week program. your consultant will touch on certain subjects such as food, mind and body. This will go on for about four weeks. Then there will be a check up. This is when you will record all of the accomplishments since you first started. You will also go on to making new goals and discussing the next course of action. The consultant is not only there to counsel you but to also encourage and guide you through the entire program. The consultant is a mentor and a coach of sorts.
So What’s on the Menu? What’s Jenny Cooking Up For Us?
This is a diet where your primary foods are already prepared for you. You simply order them and voila! there you go, instant meals. Jenny’s foods are prepared special because there is a certain amount in each portion. Everything is counted already. Then there are also certain recipes that you can follow. Your consultant will guide you through these if you like. You are able to eat whole grains and low fat dairy products. Then, of course, let’s not forget the fruits and vegetables as well. There are even Jenny Craig snack portions as well.
There is a variety of foods, anywhere from a breakfast menu to snacks. They are all presorted for your convenience. They contain the correct amount of nutrients that your body needs. This makes it easier to prepare as well. This is good for those days when you just don’t have the time to prepare a big 5 course meal for the family. If you did, you wouldn’t have to worry about preparing your own special meal as it is already done for you.
To Jenny Craig or Not to Jenny Craig, that is the Question
First of all, there is a fee to even join. Not to mention the cost of food. That alone may make anyone shun the diet program. We never know if this particular diet will work for us until we go through it and pay all the fees that are attached to it. This will help you in the decision making process as well, I am sure. You should always consult with your doctor before choosing any diet. Your doctor knows your body just as well as (if not more than) you do. Consider all that is involved. The meetings and the consultations. A lot of people do not even have the time for this kind of diet. With work, car pooling, after school activities and all of the daily household chores, who has time to sit and chit chat about food and weight? Not too many people. The other side to that is whether or not you see the advantage of having a support system. That is a good thing. Are you willing to make your own special meals outside of the ones that you should be preparing for your family? Some people may find that very inconvenient. Be sure to discuss the pros and cons with your doctor. If you are in doubt, find some success stories that you can be inspired by.
There are other things to take into consideration before you decide that this will work. You will mostly need to go ahead and try it in order to know whether it will work for you. That is with all diets. If you are willing to pay the fee and pay for the meals, then this may be just the right diet for you. Consider the time that it will take just to get through the first stages. Most people want results NOW! Make your choice and let Jenny help you lose that weight! If your desire is to lose weight and keep it off with a good support system and to do whatever it takes, then the Jenny Craig diet may be the right one for you.

National safety passport course – EMSS
Posted on September 27th, 2009 No commentsIn order to ensure safe work on sites there has been an increasing requirement for contractors to undergo a minimum level of health and safety training. This has been especially necessary in the hazardous industries. To ensure the contractors have completed this training, entry to sites is being restricted to those who can prove that they have undergone the necessary training (health and safety responsibilities). This is more commonly achieved by means of a ‘Safety Passport’.
National Safety Passports are an increasingly important way for employers and companies who employ contractors, to establish health and safety competence among their workforce. The safety passport is similar to any other passport in that it allows the holder access to a passport-controlled environment.
The national safety passport provides details of the health and safety training (essential skills) that the holder has received and is used as evidence that the bearer is qualified to an acceptable and recognised level of health and safety awareness. There are a number of Passport schemes in existence and there are also other forms of Safety training which achieve this minimum level of awareness. Some of these schemes are not recognised by certain sectors of the industry as they may be from other areas (ie off-shore or European). However, some of the other forms of training cover the passport syllabus in deeper or greater detail.
EMSS aims to harness some of these ‘other’ schemes and standardise the syllabus content which will incorporate existing passport schemes that meet or exceed the agreed minimum standard. NESHEP and the National Skills Academy have developed a standard gleaned from years of research into industry best practice and several decades of experience and expertise.
These essential minimum safety standards dictate the required minimum safety standards necessary to work safely on any high hazard site and have been thoroughly audited by industry leaders.
Personnel carry their EMSS (essential minimum safety standard) Passport Card as proof that they have been trained and validated as reaching the essential minimum safety standard required. The client sites where this person works can authenticate the passport card online.
This will prove that the card is genuine but please note that an EMSS Passport card should not be considered as proof of identity.

Alternative Student Loans
Posted on September 26th, 2009 No commentsThat’s right, there are many alternative student loans out there. I’m going to take a little time to discuss a few of them with you. The first one is a Suntrust student loan. The main benefits of this loan are six-month grace period, a graduation reward and No upfront fees on the Academic Answer student loan. Those are just some of the advantages to a Suntrust loan. You can apply for this loan online or by calling. Also, after you make 48 initial, alternative student loan payments, you can apply to have the cosigner released from liability. This is sure a plus for you.
The second alternative student loan I’d like to discuss is a loan from studentloans.com. This service provides with a fast decision, usually within minutes. It’s also applicable for undergraduate, graduate or continuing education. It’s a fairly easy application to complete. No in-school payments are necessary and they offer affordable monthly payments. You really can’t go wrong here with them. You can also increase your chance for approval by applying with a credit worthy co-signer. As with the last one, you can apply both by phone and online, whichever is easier for you.
All on all alternative student loans should be used as much as possible. Lets face it everyone needs help with school, most just can’t afford to get through it all on their own as much as they might try. These two I’ve discussed are just a few that have personally caught my attention but there are many many more out there. Take your time looking for the right one for you. The one that suits all your needs. Ask for advice from friends and family. A lot of times a friend has gone through the same thing that you’re about to go through.
The key in finding alternative student loans is research. Without researching you’re asking to be burned, do your homework, your future may depend on it. Don’t just go for the first one you see, take your time with it and make an educated choice. There shouldn’t be any rush with this as it’s something that will certainly affect you down the road. You want to make sure when you make the leap you won’t regret it a few weeks later. My personal favorite is the Suntrust loan and I’d recommend that to others in a heart beat but go with your gut, you’ll thank me in the end.
